What Is E-Foiling
E-foiling is a new sport that combines a foil board with an electric motor.
What’s a foil board? Basically, a surfboard that has a mast on the bottom with 2 wings. These wings on the bottom allow the board to elevate out of the water, achieving lift. It’s the same principle that allows airplanes to fly.
Now add a motor to the mast and you got yourself an E-foil.

How The Foil Works

Airplane Wing
Above is an example of an airplane wing achieving lift. As you can see it's the same principle. The only difference is the wing on a foil is passing through water instead of air.
How Long Does It Take To Learn E-Foiling?
30- 45 minutes
E-Foiling takes around 30 minutes to learn. Unlike kiteboarding or wing foiling, e-foiling can be learned in your first session. Although, there are some cases it could take longer. Everybody learns at different rates. Either if you learn fast or slow the processing of learning is very fun!
Detroit E-Foil Beginner Friendly Equipment
Foil equipment comes in all shapes and sizes. We use large boards and wings on our e-foils making it more stable and beginner-friendly. Our Waydoo e-foil board is made of EPP foam. This is a softer, lighter, and more forgiving material than fiberglass, plastic, and wood that is traditionally used to make foil boards.
E-Foil Lessons
E-foil lessons are private and are done at Belle Isle Detroit. Lessons also can be arranged at your preferred location of choice. Lessons start out on land where we go over safety, equipment check, and brief land lessons. We then go into the water where we get used to the foil by riding on our stomach. Once comfortable with how the foil operates then we ride on our knees for a bit. Finally, when you’re ready, you stand up and ride!
The lessons are 1 hour. Wetsuit, life vest, and helmet are included. A video can be added to your lesson for an extra $50 dollars.
